The Scythians were an ancient people who inhabited the territory of present-day Ukraine more than two and a half millennia ago. From the 7th to the 3rd century BC, they populated the vast steppes of the Northern Black Sea region, stretching from the Danube to the Don. Their core territories encompassed what is now southern and eastern Ukraine, including the steppes of the Dnieper, Black Sea, and Sea of Azov regions, as well as Crimea.
The Scythians were skilled horsemen, warriors, and artisans. They left behind numerous burial mounds (kurgans), gold ornaments, weapons, and household objects that archaeologists continue to discover today. Their culture became an integral part of the history of Ukrainian lands.
Although the modern Ukrainian people were formed over many centuries from various tribes and ethnic groups, the Scythians are regarded as early inhabitants of this land and as cultural ancestors to the peoples who later lived in Ukraine. Their legacy serves as a reminder of the deep historical roots of the Ukrainian steppes and the peoples who dwelt here long before us.
This textile artwork was created using a unique mixed-media technique: textile appliqué (quilting, patchwork), machine and hand embroidery, batik, acrylic painting, textile markers, bead and sequin embroidery, thread weaving, and photo printing on fabric. Dimensions: 80 x 60 cm. 2026

Скіфи — один із давніх народів, які жили на території сучасної України ще понад дві з половиною тисячі років тому. У VII–III століттях до нашої ери вони заселяли величезні степові простори Північного Причорномор’я — від Дунаю до Дону. Основні землі скіфів простягалися по території сучасних півдня та сходу України: степи Подніпров’я, Причорномор’я, Приазов’я та Криму.
Скіфи були вправними вершниками, воїнами та майстрами. Вони залишили після себе численні кургани, золоті прикраси, зброю і предмети побуту, які сьогодні знаходять археологи. Їхня культура стала важливою частиною історії українських земель.
Хоча сучасний український народ формувався протягом багатьох століть із різних племен і народів, скіфи вважаються одними з давніх мешканців цієї землі і культурних предків народів, що згодом жили на території України. Їхня спадщина нагадує про глибоке коріння історії українських степів і про народи, які жили тут задовго до нас.
Текстильна картина створена з використанням авторської змішаної техніки: текстильна аплікація (квілтинг, печворк), машинна вишивка, ручна вишивка, батик, акриловий живопис, текстильні маркери, вишивка бісером та паєтками, плетіння нитками, фотодрук на тканині. Розмір: 80х60 см
